This group is fairly typical of Turn-of-the-Century musical gatherings. Every instrument in the picture was available through mail order catalogues including the concert zither. All of this musical activity was considered proper for well raised young ladies and to see a grouping like this of young women with their teacher is practically iconic for the time. I’m sure that those without instruments were singers. I’m sure it was all very proper and included a sufficient amount of hymns.
